YouthBuild provides students with a pre-apprenticeship construction certification from the Building Trades Multi-Craft Core Curriculum. Students learn in an environment of labor and management cooperation where master craftworkers coach these students as they pick up the tools and techniques of the trades.
“We Build” Program
Los Angeles Unified School School District
The Los Angeles Unified School District “We Build” Program provides local District residents with an opportunity to enroll in a comprehensive, ten-week pre-apprenticeship training program offered at Adult & Career Education Occupational/Skills Centers. Upon completion, “We Build” graduates are competitively positioned for placement on construction projects through its contractors and the local trade unions.
The Pasadena/Altadena Apprenticeship Preparation Program offers a pathway to meaningful careers in the construction trades. The program helps steer young adults in high-risk circumstances away from gangs and street life by providing them with construction pre-apprenticeship training skills for successful placement into union apprenticeships.
WINTER (Women in Non-Traditional Employment Roles) provide students with workplace competency skills; life skills, and personal assessment; job retention skills; preparation for entry into non-traditional employment careers; safety instruction (OSHA 10, OSHA 30 certificate program); hands-on pre-apprenticeship training in construction trades; environmental education and remediation (HAZMAT lead, asbestos abatement, etc.); green retrofit building certification; and financial literacy and credit counseling.
