West LA College

The $400 million Building Program at West Los Angeles College is aimed at transforming the campus into a state of the art 21st Century educational institution. The goals of WLAC's construction program are to provide facilities that support and enhance the Educational Master Plan, improve outdoor gathering spaces, increase green space, enhance pedestrian access, remove vehicular traffic from the center of Campus, clearly define the campus architectural style and increase public awareness of the Campus. Some of the most notable examples of facilities supporting WLAC's Educational Master Plan are the Science and Math Building with its accredited state of the art dental hygiene program, the new General Classroom and Student Services buildings, the Heldman Learning Resource Center Renovation, the new parking structure, the pedestrian mall, and the new entrance to the campus via College Boulevard - a half-mile avenue connecting the campus to Jefferson Boulevard.

The Athletic Complex improvements included a 1,500 seat grandstand and 1,700 SF restroom / concession building, 51 space on-grade parking lot; NCAA regulation size soccer and football field with synthetic turf; and a 400-meter track with a competition-caliber synthetic surface.

The Technology Learning Center will house specialized computer labs, general computer labs, and offices for departments including Computer Science, Business & Paralegal, AFT, Academic Senate, Security, IT and Westside Extension. These spaces are supported by exterior instructional spaces and service spaces.

LEEDing the Way in Green Building

(LOS ANGELES, CA) - The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is leading the way among green buildings for educational institutions. Many of LACCD’s newest and soon to be opened campus facilities, constructed under its BuildLACCD campus improvement program, are Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) certified or higher by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED™ designation is an internationally recognized designation for buildings that are resource efficient, use less water and energy to operate and reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions.
